We Rule: other people\'s kingdoms

We Rule is a terrible game. Of course, it's really not much of a game at all, so that's like saying Avatar is a terrible nature documentary. A friend of mine put it best when he described We Rule as a little train set. You build a tiny kingdom much like a train enthusiast might build a diorama for his model trains. Except instead of building around a model train, you're building around a rote advancement track based on earning money and experience points to earn more money and more experience points.

What ultimately makes We Rule work for me - besides the fact that it's on the iPhone and a Farmville clone on the iPhone is less terrible than a Farmville clone on any other platform - is that there's enough flexibility in the graphics for kingdoms to have their own character, to make their own little vignettes, to light a faint imaginative spark if you care to examine them.

This week, I'll be showing you a few of those kingdoms. Stupid, I know. But I already wrote two very very serious entries this week, so I like to think I've earned it. I'll start with the above lovely picnic area. It's got a nice variety of trees (the screenshot doesn't show off the fireflies buzzing around the firefly tree), some flowers, a well for thirsty picnickers, and enough picnic table for two families.

Tomorrow: urban sprawl
