Space MMO Eve Online gets flatter and squarer

Eve Online has gotten a free expansion called "Dominion". Let's take a look at what it adds to the game.

DOMINION enhances the tools of communication and evolves the dynamics of war, altering the very way in which pilots interact with each other through warfare or cooperation. The vast riches of sovereign authority await for those bold enough to seize them amidst a beautiful, deadly universe of possibility.
How poetic. But what does it mean?

The bullet points are listed here, but if you're like me and you haven't played Eve Online in a while and never seriously, you're going to be at a bit of a loss reading about the, uh, sovereignty infrastructure system. For such a lovely game, Eve Online sure does love to wear its spreadsheet on its sleeve. It seems that the update/expansion mainly addresses issues of macro conflict between player corporations. And from what I know about Eve Online, you're not fully playing until you've tapped into this aspect of the game.

Although I think any n00b will appreciate this new feature I noticed in the update notes:

  • The UI is now flatter and squarer.
