Section 8 has finally gotten it's first patch. It's not surprising it took so long, considering how stable and polished the game was when it was released. But the developers have tidied up a few things. They've slightly nerfed the mighty machinegun, put a couple of hotkeys into the game, made the tank's gun easier to aim while you're driving. But the main focus seems to be making the bots smarter and more player-centric. From the patch notes:+ AI: bots will now help defend human squadmates
Then there's whatever falls under this rubric:
+ Bots in your squad will follow and defend human players more aggressively, especially in swarm bot modes.
+ Added support for locking bots into squads+ Improved bot intelligence.
All this further makes Section 8 a great shooter if you're not interested in playing online. Or maybe you just want to play with a couple of friends without having to run around a big empty map and being unable to flex the full extent of the game's design. Unlike the Call of Duty games, you don't have to throw yourself into the player community to get the most out of Section 8's multiplayer. The bots have your back.
However, Games for Windows Live continues to make life difficult. My attempts to autopatch Section 8 consisted of watching a frozen Game for Windows Live dialogue box. Here is a manual download.
