What's black and white and new to Midnight Club: Los Angeles?

What\'s black and white and new to Midnight Club: Los Angeles?

Now that you can download a free pack of police cars, Midnight Club: Los Angeles goes from "eff tha police" to "be tha police". A vehicle showroom will sell you your own black-and-white police cruisers, available in two different models. There's a '96 Impala (pictured) and a more recent Dodge Charger, each sold as either the standard LAPD version or a souped-up variant for the California Highway Patrol. The Charger also comes in an ugly green-and-white color scheme labeled "BP". Since when does British Petroleum patrol the streets of Los Angeles?

You can drive your brand new cop car around with the siren on, but Midnight Club is extra realistic in that the Los Angeles drivers are too dumb to pull over. However, the real advantage of driving a cop car is that you are above the law. Normally, if you run red lights, bang into other people's shiny new cars, or cut through the Paramount backlot, the cops will chase you. If they catch you, you'll have to pay a fine. But if you do these things in your new police car, the cops couldn't care less.

Real life check: Green and white with BP would be Border Patrol, Tom:

I don't think you see them in LA but they are involved in chases in the San Diego area.

Pointer Obvious: I don't know if it's obvious sarcasm or an obvious misunderstanding but Tom obviously knows that they aren't British Petroleum cars.

This is a nice little present but I wish it had come with a new pursuit mode, similar to the old Burnout games.

I actually didn't know they were Border Patrol, though. So thanks for the explanation, Pointer. However, I have no desire to drive around Los Angeles in a Dodge Charger painted with the Border Patrol colors. I'd much rather have one done up with a TSA logo and colors. Maybe Rockstar can do that next.

Also, Neuromancer, there are some excellent modes already in Midnight Club Los Angeles. I'd be surprised if what you're looking for isn't in there already. The only thing missing is an actual multiplayer community. :(

Pursuit mode was awesome. My problem is just that I can never get into racing games anymore... my last (and favorite one) was Burnout 3. The racing and destroying of opponents was just great.

I also seem to owe an apology to Pointer Obvious. Sorry about my last post! Just goes to show I should stop assuming things... especially on the interwebs.

BP have retcon-ed their name, according to their marketing department their name really stands for 'Beyond Petroleum'.
In other news, Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

BP agents actually get some pretty intense high speed pursuit training with all sorts of vehicles, and since they usually operate in the middle of nowhere they can actually do high speed, Mad Max style chases more often than Highway Patrols and regular city police. Seriously. Sometimes those chases end within city limits.

By Neuromancer at 10:17 AM ON 10/13/09

Pointer why would British Petroleum have agents chasing people in an official capacity on US soil? That doesn't make any sense.

By Pointer Obvious at 10:27 AM ON 10/13/09

Well, to point the obvious to you, Neuro, by engaging in high speed chases on US soil, disrupting the regions fuel economy, they literally reduce the supply and increase the demand of their petroleum products. The result if profit. Makes plenty of sense if you used your mind rather than playing mancy with your neurons, punk.
