In Dreamkiller, you play a therapist who doesn't have to do all that boring stuff where she listens to patients talk while they recline on a counch. She just goes into their dreams and kills the things that scare them. She starts out poorly armed. But as she vanquishes their fears, that changes. Her first mission is in the mind of some guy named Johnathan Web who is -- get this -- scared of spiders. How ironic. After killing a few spiders, she comes across a power-up. Here's the accompanying dialogue:What have we here? A minigun? Good, the patient's mind is trying to help me. Thanks, Johnathan!
Dreamkiller is clearly one of those post-Serious Samshooters that embraces its cheesiness in a way that only Eastern European countries can manage (the developers are Czech).
One of the things I already love is that it has unlimited ammo. I don't have to scrounge around to play with the best toys. However, that doesn't mean I can just hold down the fire button. The barrel of the minigun gradually heats up as the gun fires, so I have to periodically let it cool down. Also, see that strange pneumatic canister mounted on top of the minigun? It's a rocket launcher. Once I fire it, there's a reload animation while the therapist replaces the rocket. She can't fire the minigun during the reload, but otherwise, she can pop off rockets as she wants.
What the heck kind of game starts you out with the minigun and the rocket launcher at the same time, both on the same weapon, and both with unlimited ammo? This might be the best bad game I've played since Necrovision.

So, where does Dreamkiller go from there, once you get the minigun/rl? Downhill? More over the top?

The setting looks like City 17 of Half-Life (I think it eastern European architecture) but the plot totally sounds like the trippy game Psychonauts!
