Nintendo no longer content to beat other videogame companies

Nintendo no longer content to beat other videogame companies

It's not enough that Nintendo has trounced Microsoft and Sony. Now they're moving on up, trouncing companies like Apple, Google, Anheuser-Busch, and Exxon Mobil. They just showed up at the number one spot on Business Week's list of the top 40 companies in the world.

The criteria for the list was basically companies with the greatest global sales and growth. Sony and Microsoft don't even appear on the list.

So there's something for me to think about next time I want to make some cutting remark about how much dust my Wii is gathering.

Oh no, those mean horrible Nintendo people, how could they ever be successful by bringing something enjoyable to the market... [/sarcasm]

I'd love to see total software sales figures and see if Nintendo still make it to the top of the pile of the big three. Sure, they've sold the most hardware, I know plenty of people with a Wii, but most of them really do just sit there and collect dust next to a couple of unloved titles these days... You really only have to look at the Wii section in any game store to find out why!

On a different note, it's no wonder that people rarely comment on this blog, your captcha system is absolutely terrible! Regardless of whether or not I enter the text correctly I get taken to a page saying that I didn't, with no 'try again' option, no link back, just the vague hope that clicking the 'back' button won't erase my comment... Here we go, third time lucky!

All the respect in the world for Nintendo's success, but I've always been bothered by the sales matchups between the Wii, the PS3, and X360. The only thing the Wii has in common with the other two systems is the timeframe the hardware was released in. The 'novel' motion-sensitive controller aside, the Wii's hardware is last generation and sells mostly simple games that are attractive to the very young or older players with no interest in 'the hard games'.

When the Wii can match the X360 and PS3 in terms of graphics and processing power and can release a game library of similar caliber to the other two systems, then we'll talk about whether Nintendo is truly the top system.

But you see Ascii, business-wise it IS the top system, so why do they need to change it? It has got a crap library of games comparatively, but aslong as it makes money, Nintendo won't give a damn.
