Ice Age director attached to Spore movie

Plenty of videogames sell the rights to a movie tie-in. Some of those even get scripts written. A few of those even go into pre-production. But none of that means a movie of a videogame is going to make it to the screen. So take with a grain of salt all those announcements that the movie of [insert game name here] is underway.

But once you get a director attached, and once it's a director with a proven box office draw, it's time to announce that the movie of [insert game name here] in underway. In this case, the game's name is Spore.

Variety announced that Chris Wedge, who kicked off the Ice Age franchise, is attached to Twentieth Century Fox's animated movie of EA's weird creature game.

Fox is especially high on Wedge after "Ice Age" turned into a major franchise for the studio, generating $1.9 billion from three pics since 2002. He recently exec produced the third installment and "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who" for Fox.
Here is Wedge's vague and upbeat take on how he views a Spore movie.
I'm always looking for unique worlds to go to in animation. From every perspective -- visually, thematically and comedically -- the world of 'Spore' provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen.
The script is from the two of the guys who wrote Disney's upcoming The Princess and the Frog.
