Where will you be when the zombie apocalypse strikes?
In order to reinforce that he's a neurotic loser, Zombieland situates its hero, played by Jesse Eisenberg, at home on a Friday night when the zombie apocalypse strikes. He's drinking Mountain Dew Code Red and pondering his virginity. Oh, and he's also playing World of Warcraft, which is identified by name, shown in action from a distance, and given an official "Courtesy of Blizzard Entertainment" credit at the end of the movie.
If Zombieland were more serious -- it's a wonderfully goofy combo of zombie movies and boy-meets-girl comedies -- it might be more fodder for the videogamers-as-losers perception. Instead, it's just a throwaway observation to be taken no more seriously than a later reference to "violent videogames" making the characters mistrust each other.
EDIT: I apparently don't know my Mountain Dew variants, probably because I'm such a tough guy that I drink so much beer and whiskey instead. Fixed.

alright. i loved the movie. and i hate zombie movies. they are so bullshit. this kid lives by a set of rules that are pretty FU**ing respectable. lets just say that its not as good as Shawn of the dead because its noway real, where this movies represents the zombies for what they are but with some realistic humor. and rules that arent dumb.
but, whatever.

Woah Boomer that was a mouth full and hard to understand. I did get that Shaun of the Dead bit out and I agree, amazing movie.
As for you Tom, it was Code Red. Although I am glad to see that you saw this as a "throwaway observation" and not something to take seriously.
Also did anyone notice how old Columbus was according to his own words? He said he was in 8th grade in like '98 which makes him like 25. Seemed kinda old for the character he was portraying.

@kantakerous:
I thought the same things about Colombus' age at first, but then I figured he could be going to UT for a master's degree, or doctorate, considering how intelligent he is.
But nitpicking aside, Zombieland was definitely the best zombie movie since Shaun of the Dead (I would put them on equal footing), and possibly the best movie so far this year.

Awesome movie and very funny. Not quite Shaun of the Dead level of greatness, but it's the next best thing. Well after Return of the Living Dead too.

@kantakerous:
He didn't say he was in 8th grade, Wichita suggested it (and it was 1997 not 1998).
A better explanation would be that Wichita was in the 8th grade in 1997 and that she is a bit older than she looks.
She may have just assumed that Columbus was the same age as her.
