In case you weren't finding the Playstation 3 RPG Demon's Souls challenging enough, be sure to revisit it this weekend. According to a cryptic press release from publisher Atlus:Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One's power grows. We've discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow's Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don't know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully.
There are no specifics about what exactly this means, but one of the gameplay mechanics in Demon's Souls is that different parts of the world can be swayed towards black or white. Black means the monsters are tougher to beat, but they drop more valuable treasure. White makes the going a bit easier, but for a reduced reward. If you sway the world far enough in one direction or the other, you unlock unique areas and creatures. My guess is that the game gets a global shift towards black over the weekend.

I have this game it's already hard enough without this, but I'll be playing it anyway because maybe I'll find a helpful weapon. PSN ID Lifetaker25

I love this game! The first hour or so, I was meh, but the first time I turned into a black phantom and infiltrated another persons game and when all the upgrade options opened up, I can't stop letting it beat me in the face. I have never died cheaply, it was always me being complacent or simply sucking. I haven't found a single monster I couldn't beat as long as I thought it through... and being able to 'ask for help' and bring some internet people in to help is just brilliant. Death means something in this game, and the struggle to 'stay alive' while fighting makes the tension high.... especially when you think there is another player stalking you in your single player game. Only weakness I have found is that I can't figure out how to make the world turn more light. I prefer it dark since the loot is better, but some stuff only opens up if you max it one way or the other.
