The dead shall walk a Galaxy far, far away

Star Wars Galaxies is adding a series of quests in which you fight against zombies.

You might think that's ridiculous, awesome, or ridiculously awesome. You might think it's a shallow ploy to appeal to guys like me who are suckers for all things undead, especially when they arrive in shambling flesh-hungry hordes. You might think it's just a Halloween stunt. You might think it's one of the ambitious but ill-fated MMO's many last gasps. You might even think, "Wait, I thought Star Wars Galaxies shut down already".

You're not necessarily wrong except for that last one. But it's worth pointing out that the stunt isn't completely out of the blue. It's a tie-in to the horror-themed Star Wars novel Death Troopers, which will be published in mid-October (the above image is from the official Comic-Con announcement).

And in case you're wondering just what the deal is with Death Troopers, it's about a prison barge that finds a derelict Star Destroyer full of zombies. No joke.

The idea of zombie stormtroopers has me quite intrigued...

EVERY FPS has to do zombies sooner or later! :P

I seldom find blood amusing, but the costumes are reminding me of the advertisements for Dragon Age: Origins!

Zombies in the Star Wars universe full stop seems a bit like a homogenisation of SW values to the rest of the geekesphere.
Its all part of the same ever tedious pattern. Star Trek puts vampires in to Nemesis and makes a mockery of that. Half Life 2 puts in an absolutley story and atmosphere destroying side track into a zombie town that had nothing to do with the rest of the game and grafting zombies into Star Wars is the same stunted thinking. It's just a right load of wank.
