Street Fighter II clashes with Zen Pinball

Street Fighter II clashes with Zen Pinball

The excellent Zen Pinball for the Playstation 3 just got a new table and it's quite the stinker. I suppose it doesn't help that I'm not really a Street Fighter fan, so the Street Fighter II Tribute table isn't really up my alley. I don't get the references. Why is there a car on the table? Why is that yacht back there? Why is a Wolverine action figure looming over the tangled mess in the upper left corner? Why is Dolph Lundgren's fist covering Chun Li's ungodly massive thighs, which are the most famous feature of Street Fighter? And isn't there supposed to be a bison somewhere?

But even in terms of aesthetics and gameplay, I don't like this table. For a playing field so wide-open, it's glutted with color and graphics of variously sized limbs and faces. And that tangle in the upper left corner is truly inscrutable. A pinball can get lost up there and you'd never know what happened to it.

At least it's only $2.50. And it certainly makes it easier for Zen Studios to do more tables, because they can't possibly do one worse than this uninspired ad for Capcom. Street Fighter II Tribute is for fanboys only.
