September 28, 2009: wallet threat level green

The biggest non-threat to your wallet this week is the PSP Go, Sony's UMD-less redesign of their handheld that you probably won't need because you already have a PSP on which you play Patapon 2. Right? This week, all manner of PSPs can download Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and Gran Turismo for some racing action. The former is passable, but disappointing. The latter is just plain disappointing.

I got some hands-on time with a PSP Go recently and it is pretty sexy. I'm not sure it's $250 worth of sexy, but it's still sexy.

Speaking of sexy, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will be out this week. It's basically a re-release of Ninja Gaiden 2 with some extra stuff, including Sixaxis controlled breast physics on the Playstation 3. So if you've always wanted a ninja combat game in which you could manually bounce a character's breasts, consider this a $60 threat to your wallet.

For mature players interested in motion control violence instead of sex, there's Dead Space Extraction for the Wii, a prequel to Electronic Arts gory space-ship horror game. Also for the Wii this week is MySims Agents, which looks like a hybrid of The Sims, Zak & Wiki style puzzles, and the venerable Covert Action. Color me intrigued, even though I'm too old for a MySims game. Next thing you know, I'll be playing one of those Lego games.

Risen is a hardcore German-built RPG from the guys who made Gothic. Tornado Outbreak is from some of the creators of the Sly Cooper games. Think Katamari Damacy, but with a tornado instead of a giant ball. This look cute at E3, but I'll be surprised if it can sustain an entire game.

Finally, the dark horse of this mostly underwhelming week is Undead Knights. This PSP game has you raising an army of zombies to conquer castles. Color me even more intrigued that I am by MySims Agents, which has a marked lack of zombies.
