Once again, Sony's Playstation 3 has fallen behind Microsoft's Xbox 360.
A British consumer advocacy show called Watchdog recently aired the above segment, in which "comedian and game guru" Ian Lee intended to expose the technical flaws of the Playstation 3. To do this, he hired a couple of dudes to fix a couple of busted PS3's that were no longer under warranty. The segment suggested something called the "yellow light of death" plagued the system. But like many of Sony's attempts to mimic the Xbox 360, this falls far short of the Microsoft version, which did it first and best. "Yellow light of death" simply doesn't have as dire a sound or the knell of finality that comes with "red ring of death". What's more, the word-of-mouth about this "yellow light of death" is so bad that I'd never even heard of it. Yet again, Sony can't quite get a message across.
The five-minutes segment ends with about two-and-a-half minutes of a funny [sic] musical video.
Here is Sony's official response to the segment, which does little to help them catch up with the Xbox 360. I've been through eight busted Xbox 360s and zero busted Playstation 3's. It seems that the Xbox 360 is the clear leader when it comes to unreliable hardware.
