Brand new Quake Wars map isn't what you expect

Brand new Quake Wars map isn\'t what you expect

I was pretty excited to see on Voodoo Extreme that there's a new Quake Wars map, created by one of the game's developers and released on the occasion of the game's second anniversary!

But then I saw that it's small and rough-hewn, basically something an artist had left over on his hard drive. The setting is a jungle, but since Quake Wars doesn't really do heavy foliage, it gets fog instead. It also doesn't seem built for the sort of epic battles that made Quake Wars great. As the creator says here:

It's quite small for [Quake Wars] standards, I'd estimate 4v4 will be the best player count for this, although I haven't tested for team sizes at all. For all I know it plays like complete rubbish! :)
Still, it's a new map.

Quake Wars was a fantastic team-based shooter, combining on-foot combat, land vehicles, and aircraft. It featured two completely different sides with unique weapons. It was built from a really sweet graphics engine. The maps were carefully created to pass from point to point, each a different kind of challenge, but they always guaranteed lots of action. It was the best game of its kind until Section 8.

But it's a shame that Activision didn't see fit to follow-up the release with an expansion, or even some new maps. We get five billion official new maps for Call of Duty, and nary a one for Quake Wars.
