August 31, 2009: Wallet threat level red

After a one-week delay, Section 8 is finally available. This is one of the finest shooters I've played in a long time, so I must warn you that your wallet is in danger. Your only hope is if you don't have a gaming PC or an Xbox 360, in which case Section 8 isn't available for you and you've managed to dodge a severe wallet threat. You'll just have to make due with reading my enthusiastic game diaries, which continue this week.

Also out this week is Mini Ninjas (pictured), a cutesy platformer whose main claim to fame is that it's the first bloodless game created by IO Interactive, the Danish developer known for the bloody Hitman series. However, if you're up for an action game, it's probably a safer bet to go with Muramasa: the Demon Blade from Japanese developer Vanillaware, the creators of cult hits Odin's Sphere and Grim Grimoire, as well as magazine covers implying tentacle rape. But whereas Mini Ninjas is available for nearly any platform, Muramasa is only available for the Wii.

Like Mini Ninjas, Guitar Hero 5 is also out this week for nearly every platform. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds as if Activision has improved quite a bit since the last Guitar Hero. Of course, I predicted the same thing about Guitar Hero: World Tour, which quickly made its way into my Closet of Lost Videogames Not Worth Dragging Out the Big Plastic Peripherals, so you probably don't want to take my word for it.

Finally, Champions Online is officially open for business this week, taking your money as a subscription-based game sold in a retail box and powered by micro-transactions. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised to see ingame advertising thrown into the mix, just for giggles.
