Eurogamer details some hands-on time with the Demons of the Badlands add-on for Red Faction: Guerrilla due later this summer. Those of us who paid for the sorry excuses for add-ons offered for the developer's previous game, Saints Row 2, might have some misgivings. Eurogamer reassures us.THQ appears to have learned the lessons of its Saints Row 2 DLC adventures and wants to make the most of Red Faction's continuing popularity with more of a best-of in a new setting than a simple bolt-on vignette.
Okay, so what do they have for us?
If you finished Red Faction: Guerrilla, you know that in the course of liberating Mars, a lot of stuff gets, uh, broken. Because the omelet of freedom begins with breaking the eggs of destructible hotels, barracks, bridges, power plants, factories, monuments, and city halls. So rather than deal with this post-liberation mess (remember, this is not an intentional statement about the war in Iraq!), the add-on takes place prior to the core game. It's a prequel! And sidekick chick Samanya is now the main character.
As for the amount of new content: All told, THQ reckons a competent player with a lot of RFG experience should be able to complete Demons of the Badlands in between four and five hours, assuming they don't go after all the collectables. Less experienced players, or those who want to mine Mars' newest playground for all its secrets, can hope to spend considerably longer in its company. The difficulty has also be adjusted subtly upwards, so while there are still four skill settings, each is proportionally more difficult than the main game.

Will PC gamers actually get some DLC love this time? They didn't bring us any of the Saints Row 2 stuff, but maybe they'll be more willing to with this as a GfWL title. But I'm not holding my breath...

No new game+, building respawn, or more walker locations for the regular game? That's too bad.
