Battlefield 1943 is Electronic Arts' re-release of a couple of maps from Battlefield 1942, a multiplayer game that came out way back in the year 2002. In those days, the world was socked in by fog and you had to play your multiplayer shooters on a PC. But now, with this-gen technology, the fog has been lifted and the PC gets to wait until a few months down the road. Furthermore, everything will look better and you might even be able to break down the occasional wall (no promises on that last one, but it was a prominent feature of the game's engine when it was used in Battlefield: Bad Company). You'll be able to get Battlefield 1943 as a 500MB download from Xbox Live and the Playstation Store. However, at $15, it doesn't elevate the wallet threat level very much.
Also available for download this week is the new take on Lucasarts' classic Monkey Island adventure games. Tales of Monkey Island (pictured) is created by Telltale Games, the folks who are single-handedly making all adventure games these days. The first of the game's five episodes, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, will be available this week.
Also out this week is something from 2K Sports called The Bigs 2. I believe it's based on an Eddie Murphy comedy in which he plays all the parts.
