Twitter gets a break for once. This time, the culprit is business networking site LinkedIn. That's where an employee of Treyarch, the developer responsible for all the odd-numbered Calls of Duty after the first (#5 pictured), noted the following:

I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7.

Activision hasn't confirmed the existence of any such game, so the accidental news was seized and circulated. The animator in question quickly changed his profile, but it was too late.

Of course, no one doubts a Call of Duty 7 is in the works. It's even possible to draw conclusions about the setting based on Treyarch declaring they're done with World War II and this leak that Activision is licensing music that you might expect to find in a Vietnam era game. But that doesn't make it any less satisfying to get early accidental confirmation straight from the horse's mouth.
