Teaser video shows next creation from Shadow of the Colossus developer Team Ico

Have a look at what's next from the folks who brought you Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. How's that for a character design? He's so ugly that he's adorable. You could say he's a giant possum/rat/squirrel thing with elements of a cat, a dog, and a bird. Or, in the tradition of Team Ico's previous games, he seems to be a cross between Yorda, a Colossus, and the horse.

Whatever he is, move over, Fable II dog. I have a new best friend.

(Thanks Jazar!)

Okay, that's really cool.
With level design, they stick to what they know.
But I think the boy looks mostly like a placeholder in this video, doesn't fit at all into the color scheme.

Man, I didn't want to buy a PS3! ^^

Maybe the boy is supposed to stick out, be out of place. He is not "of" the ruins; he's a living kid from somewhere else.

neet. i really want to play this. which p-ses me off that it could be PS3 exclusive. it's a good system, but they can be such a game hog.

Mr. Budgethero, in regards to your statement that this "could be PS3 exclusive", that's sort of like saying the next Mario game "could be Wii/DS exclusive." Or that the next Halo game "could be Xbox exclusive."

I am impressed!

I'm not going to put any spoilers down but the kid seems like he fits in from the last story. Guess I'll have to go rob someone now to get a PS3.

(a) that's really extremely charming (b) isn't that background music the score from Miller's Crossing

+ ?

@Neuromancer: LOL

@Chijts: Well, it is called "Project Trico," but that doesn't necessarily mean it's in that universe, though I would hope so. It could also just be called "Trico" at the moment because they are Team Ico and this is their third game, which is just as likely.

@Tom: He (or possibly she?) looks to me a bit like a gryffon, but there are dog elements in him (mostly the head), and the tail is rather cat/rat-like.

By Felipe 058 at 3:30 PM ON 05/20/09

And he (the gryffon thingy) does have horns on the top of his head. You can barely see them, but they're right next to the ears. I'm thinking, well I don't exactly know what I'm thinking--even though I'm pretty sure everyone else is also thinking it--because what I AM thinking doesn't make sense, if you know what I'm thinking (that's in regard to to horns). But I didn't see any on the kid, which definitely WOULD make sense.

Does anyone else get the idea from the way he acts that he might be a child (the gryffon thingy)?

By Chijts at 5:10 PM ON 05/20/09

The points you mention about the project title I had thought about too.

But yea, forgot about those horns. But as you noticed them on the gryffon thing maybe I'm not completely out of touch...

Although is SotC a sequel or prequel, or even standalone from Ico? If it was a prequel then the ending of SotC could relate to Ico strongly (if I remember it right..)

By Yora at 6:30 PM ON 05/20/09

@ Felipe:

After their first game, Ico, the working title for their second game Shadow of the Colossus was Nico (ni = two in japanese). I think using the working title Trico implies pretty much that it's the third game in the series.

By Felipe 058 at 12:31 AM ON 05/21/09

@Chijts: SotC is a prequel, though I have yet to play Ico. Fortunately, Ebay is awesome, and so is my timing :) I think $40 (that's with shipping included) is pretty good for "Like New."

@Yora: Yes, I remember that now, thank you for reminding me :) And the fact that the gryffon thingy has horns supports it even more. What baffles me the most is if this is the third game (which is more than likely), and if the gryffon thing is in some way part of the "unholy" lineage (which may or may not be true, the horns might just be part of that creature, which is unlikely if this is in fact the third game), HOW? How do you go from human to gryffon thingy, except by some spell? Of course that wouldn't surprise me, least of all in the Ico universe.

By Chijts at 9:40 AM ON 05/21/09

I would like to think that the trilogy is some kind of reverse trilogy - that this next game was a lead up to how the events of SotC began, then SotC ending to Ico beginning...

But that's just what I'd do if I were in charge ^^
