Myst released for the iPhone

Myst released for the iPhone

This is one of those things that sounds totally awesome for about ten seconds. Check out this announcement for your own ten second thrill:

Introducing Myst for the iPhone™ and iPod touch®. The complete worlds of Myst, in all its original elegance, in the palm of your hand. Remember how the surrealistic island became your world? The note, the garden, the books, the pages, the brothers, the choices? Now Myst can become your world no matter where in the world you are.
Okay, now that the concept is out there, consider the prospect of actually replaying Myst. The note, the garden, the books, the pages, the brothers. Yeah, all that. Again. And the choices? My choice would be to play something because it holds up and not out of nostalgia. But, yeah, it's on the iPhone, which is actually one of the main advantages of most iPhone games.

What a great idea, seems like the perfect way to replay a classic. If I had an iPhone I would definately be picking this up, that game had such a great atmosphere. Too bad most game sites are so snarky about Myst (not calling out any one in particular),because I imagine that's going to hold back a lot of people from trying it for the first time.

To the author: effing bite me. Myst was one of the greatest games of its time; it was generally decried by those that couldn't appreciate a game that actually required you to think.

For the readers who've never played it: games don't become classics out of nostalgia. It's because they're frickin' brilliant. It's a puzzle game: if you're unhappy that you can't figure it out in twenty minutes, then you've misunderstood the whole concept.

To the author, I gotta agree with the other commenters here.

Myst was and is a great game. By putting it on the iPhone/Touch platform this is a fantastic opportunity to introduce it to a demographic that wasn't even born when the game originally came out.

And, while I would agree that Myst doesn't have the replayability factor of an arcade game, I would argue that a lot of us original fans probably haven't played it in years and wouldn't pass up a chance to play it again on our iPhones. I know I'll probably buy it.

So rather than spoil it for everybody, try to be a little objective. Just because you're too ADHD to play a puzzle game doesn't mean everybody else is.

WooT,

lol what they said.....

I miss games that made me think.

Now we need Morrowind on the iphone :)

Know what would be really cool, a game like Morrowind that allows you to learn a language or real world skill if you want.

I mean the games are so realistic and interactive, why not give the player the option for a learn spanish?

You could go on a quest with guild leader Sancho and have to learn enough Spanish to converse with locals and complete the quest. Or you could learn Algebra or something...

Sneak in a little education with the fun but make it optional.
