R.U.S.E. includes stealth, but with a fancier name

Moving on from trying to appeal to male models to trying to appeal to actual gamers, Ubisoft is showing off some of the actual gameplay in Ruse in the above video. It demonstrates how you can use a "ruse", or special power, called Radio Silence. This allows you to move unseen past enemy units. It's almost like having stealth, but without actually being called stealth. What will they think of next?

It's a good looking game, to be sure, but it looks like there's a lot of overlap with EndWar and World in Conflict, two other games published by Ubisoft.

Argh - I hate sounding like a cynic (okay, maybe I am a little...), but from the silly faux acronym name, the original trailer and now this video - I find myself completely and utterly underwhelmed.

As I said earlier, my gut instinct tells me this is a game "built by committee" based on some gimmick, like Perimeter's terrain engine. That does not in of itself make a good game. And we can see how well Perimeter did.

Of course I could be wrong, and it might turn out splendidly. The graphics engine looks nice, but I need to see more. So far this demonstration is not blowing my skirt up. (That is if I had a skirt.)

When you say 'melodrama' I hear 'insincere'. Does it really need 'dramatic voice guy with a hint of an accent'? Do we really need the 'millions and billions of polygons' line to impress us? All that says to me is, "the graphics and gameplay don't speak for themselves, so I have to SELL this to make you want it."
