Electronic Arts predicts Bruins will take the Stanley Cup

Electronic Arts predicts Bruins will take the Stanley Cup

Now that I've done research into sports videogames, I've discovered that you apparently don't have to watch sports anymore, because you can use videogames to predict the outcome. Which is why I'm going to pass along this insider tip that was emailed to me from Electronic Arts.

The Boston Bruins will win the Stanley Cup for the first time in 37 years, defeating original six rival Chicago Blackhawks in a six game series, according to the official EA SPORTS simulation of the 2009 NHL playoffs on the award-winning NHL 09 videogame.

Boston, led by shutdown defenseman Zdeno Chara, outmuscled the Blackhawks and received timely scoring from Conn Smythe Trophy winner Phil Kessel to capture its sixth Stanley Cup, and first since 1972. Kessel, playing on the Bruins top line with playoff leading scorer Marc Savard, delivered two overtime game-winners during the Finals. He finished with 14 goals in the playoffs, including five in the Finals. The EA SPORTS simulation predicts Boston and Chicago will appear in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 17 and 15 years, respectively.

I don't really understand any of that, but I'm betting ten bucks on the Bruins.

Tragic, looks like a sports game to me in the picture, what is the problem?

By tragic at 1:27 PM ON 04/14/09

I hope you are being sarcastic.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying the the Spurs and the Lakers in the picture are playing for the Stanley Cup as well as the Bruins and Blackhawks?

By Ninyu at 4:30 PM ON 04/14/09

Umm Deadbuffalo, the article is about hockey and there is a basketball screen shot.

By tragic at 5:03 PM ON 04/14/09

the main point is that it's insulting to hockey fans and this right at the beginning of the playoffs. Face it people, this site sucks! They haven't even fixed it yet. It's just recycled news from other sites, but less accurate. Boo!

Ummm..... the two post topics that are posted are just showing the wrong pictures. They just need to be swapped. No need to blow your brains out.

Boston would be nice to win. I want ta see the SAVARDDDDDDDD!

Tragic......this site has been around for a few months at least so it isnt totally "new"

you should learn how to not piss yourself over things that dont matter..like the internet and what pic goes where.

Seriously weak, Mr. Chick. Anyone can copy-paste a press release, but it takes a higher level of chicanery to post an image from the wrong sport (or even game).

By tragic at 6:10 PM ON 04/14/09

Don't worry about me Mike! I can take care of myself. Just worry about the quality of the web content that you're spending your valuable work time browsing ;)

I'm not quite sure I understand the objections. My interns have assured me that the correct sporting activities are depicted in the accompanying screenshots. They snicker a little when they tell me this, but I'm pretty sure they're just laughing at a joke I told them earlier today about a farmer who has a pig with a wooden leg. It's quite a good joke.

Also, Fidgit is about a year old, so we've been alienating our user base for much longer than some of you seems to appreciate. Give us the credit we deserve.

LOL @ Tom. now that was a funny joke. LMAO

By tragic at 6:25 PM ON 04/14/09

why would you seek to exclude users.... it's just so incredibly dumb. shove your inside joke where the sun don't shine.... i will never visit this site again.

By Mike at 6:55 PM ON 04/14/09

".... i will never visit this site again" kotaku needs you

Aww, I'm just goofing around with you, tragic. Really, my intention was a bit of self-deprecating humor about how retarded I am when it comes to sports. Don't take it personally. As for the site, it's a small operation, so you will find a lot of commentary on news you can read elsewhere. But hopefully you'll find it has enough of a personal touch to make it interesting.

Wow, it took reading the comments section for me to realize the picture was a humorous juxtaposition. Tom Chick - 1, this reader - 0.
