Never underestimate the, uh, dedication of a Battlestar Galactica fan. A fellow who calls himself Ibanez is working on the Battlestar Galactica Tactical Mod, which lets players take on the role of the commander of the Galactica during an attack by a Cylon base star. As he enthusiastically describes it:We will be the commander of Galactica this time. Not a noob viper nugget pilot. You can actually feel that you are watching a battle from the movie with increased AI aiming, AI thinking, detailed models, commanding freedom and with your own strategy to survive and protect the human race!
That may not sound so far-fetched until you realize what game he's working from. This mod is based on Mount & Blade, a medieval combat game. Just to give you some idea the lengths to which Ibanez has gone, here's Mount & Blade before the mod:
And here it is after the mod:

Haha, awesome. There's already a couple of Star Wars mods, a modern-day crime comedy called Gangs of Glasgow, a prehistoric mod where you can eat opposing tribes of cave men, a Lord of the Rings mod or two, some Samurai mods, pirates naturally, and if you look hard enough, a Fidgit mod, where the Valiant Sir Tom battles the evil forces of Dark Chick.

Odd choice for a game engine to mod with....leads me to beleive it is also the easiest one to mod with since it looks so trash but is being used anyway. A BSG game made with the source engine would be awesome

I would have gone with "the evil Vampire Count Chickula" myself.

At one point in development, Taleworlds had to decide between working on a story or making it easy to mod. They went with the latter, and I think that was the right thing to do. Because plenty of games have campaigns or storylines, but very few have as interesting or active modding community as Mount & Blade.
Of course, M&B isn't a set of design tools first and a game second (like NWN and FRUA), but yeah, I guess it must be pretty easy to develop for.

Nice. What I want to know is why there still isn't a BSG mod for Sins, which you'd have thought would be much more suitable. The main one in progress seems to have stalled.

Check out Beyond the Red Line, its a Freespace 2 mod of Battlestar Galactica. You get to fly around in Vipers, Raptors, Cylon raiders, and other stuff. It been built from the ground up by a bunch of talented modders, also...its free! (Freespace 2 is now basically freeware, thanks to the original developers decision to "let it free"). The demo is out now so you can try it out if you want, its based on the episode with Scar.

Second Life's had a few BSG themed sims for a while now. Some roleplay, others pilot vipers or cylon ships to shoot-em-up.

I would like to know why there isn't a "real" BSG game! For the cost of a single episode or three a high-quality game could be produced, especially if they licensed a pre existing engine. It would more than make the costs back!

Exactly!, they could also make an RPG from inside the old girl, for those that can't fly for s**t(like me!).

Another cool BSG mod is beyond the red line. Check out the demo:

Obviously some people don't bother to keep up with the news.
Lets see:
1 BSG has a PC game
http://au.gamespot.com/pc/action/battlestargalactica/index.html
2. BSG has a PS2 Game.
As fro modding there are a large number of mods out for BSG.
Nexus has 2
HW2 has at least 1
Freespace has Beyond the red line which has been listed here 4 times..
But the point is there either Strat Combat or 'Simulators' this one is a FPS for the main part.. which does make it 'diffrent'. of course given enough time and a decent mod team it wouldn't be that hard to make something in the Source or Unreal 3 engine... it's getting the mod team togeather in the first place that takes time and effort.

-->I think what lonesomephreak meant by a "real" BSG game is an official BSG game that isn't a complete turd like your first two examples.
