I'm not sure who Ubisoft is trying to appeal to with the above teaser for Ruse, an upcoming real time strategy game, but they've certainly got the smirking male model demographic covered. The official website for the game will go live sometime after today's 5pm announcement at the Game Developer's Conference, but in the meantime, you can check out the extensive write-up on Rock Paper Shotgun.
It's a strange name, and based Ubisoft is obviously banking on this angle:Deception is present everywhere in our daily lives: in media, politics, even relationships, but we also realized how important it was during wartime. There are so many stories around this hidden side of war...None of the other RTS games give the player the opportunity to control this major aspect of strategy.
Never mind that deception is a potentially significant part of any good RTS. Let's talk about that first bit, about how deception is part of our relationships. So not only is Ubisoft courting the smirking male model demographic, but they also want to appeal to cheating spouses? Interesting approach. Sound like it's going to be one heck of an online community.
Reading over the basic feature list, I don't see a lot to get excited about. It seems like a World War II version of Supreme Commander. But the buried lede -- and the real reason to get excited about Ruse -- is that this is the next game from Eugen, the French developers of Act of War, an smart exciting RTS that was hands-down better than the Command & Conquer games it imitated. I look forward to seeing what the folks at Eugen can do with something that isn't so obviously derivative. And if they think they can make trickery a substantial feature, I'm looking forward to seeing how they do it.
By the way, it's technically R.U.S.E. , but don't encourage Ubisoft. They're already pushing it with H.A.W.X. At least Ruse isn't Ruze.

The question is which guy best represented Tom Chick as he was getting pwned by an A-10 in HAWX.

I'm sorry but I gotta say this command and conquer is the best rts ever. Period. Supreme commander is great and I personally love endwar and halo wars but cnc is still the best and I despise those who would try to immitate such pure awesomeness.

Just from the presentation this game (and its premise) has all the tell-tale signs of design-by-committee. I won't be surprised if it stinks to high heaven. It's almost as bad an idea as... well Sci-Fi channel renaming itself SyFy! (Heh, I've been holding on to *that* zinger for a few days now.)

@Bacongrease: I always find it amazing to read comments by C&C players. As all Westwood games C&C have some nice graphics and thats it. There is without a doubt one RTS that can be called the best - Starcraft. All the whining of the C&C players is not enough to change the fact.

I love Starcraft it's a great game but every strategy game I play is missing one thing or another I find that many people don't play these games the right way. Multiplayer rts is much more fun if you let each other tech up then instead of a simple race to see who can throw out more guys first it becomes about strategy and occasionally even a mock form of politics. That's why I liked the idea cnc had On the 360 with the different game modes especially siege which specifically kept you apart for a specified amount of time.
