Sony has just announced the new Ratchet & Clank game will be out this fall. Which wasn't much of an announcement, because they already told us that at the end of the last game. I guess the announcement was for people who didn't finish the last game.
The only real news here is the subtitle, Crack in Time. That, along with the press release's reference to the new game being "time bending", implies levels set at various points in time. I'm not sure that's anything new. The last PS3 game has a dinosaur level, for Pete's sake. How much more time traveling you can get than that, short of doing fancy Blinx-style time tricks? Hey, wait a minute. Could that be their gimmick...
Until we get more concrete info, let's talk Ratchet & Clank subtitles. For some reason, the developers at Insomniac have a predilection for references to stuff in the bathing suit area. Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, Size Matters, and Quest for Booty are the most obvious. But if they really want to tap into the Leisure Suit Larry demographic, they're going to have to be a lot more obvious than "Crack of Time". Might I reccommend Ratchet & Clank: In Da Butt? Or maybe just Ratchet & Clank: Penis. Is that too obvious?
By the way, if you have any ideas for a Ratchet & Clank weapon -- and if you've ever played the games, you know that no idea is too outrageous -- Insomniac could use your help.

It's not so much appealing to a certain crowd as continuing a minor standing joke in the series; like you say, every game so far has had some sort of knowingly cheesy innuendo for a subtitle. I doubt anyone is picking up the game and saying "Uh hur hur, sex jokes, I must buy."

Mommy I want ratchet and clank: penis for my birthday.
Apparently there is an upper limit to the weapons. My suggestion for a giant dildo that gets shoved up enemy asses till they explode was flatly regected.

It wasn't rejected; they're just saving that one for R&C:P.

I liked the clever and slightly off-color titles and admit to being disappointed with the new one. IMO, they reflected the tongue-in-cheek humor of the scripts pretty well, and that humor was always one of the best parts of the series to me...the sorts of sly jokes you'd run across that weren't meant for kids but subtle enough to slip by and make them good games for two different audiences.
