My Life as a King sequel goes over to the dark side

Darklord_01.jpgSquare Enix has announced that the sequel to the Wii Ware city builder My Life as a King will show how the other half lives. In that game, you built up a city and sent adventurers out into the world. Since you were king, you sat around and waited until they returned, at which point they'd regale you with tales of their adventures and hand over the treasure they found. It was an interesting twist, but not very gratifying.

The sequel, due out later this year, will show you the rest of the story. In My Life as a Darklord, you get to see where the adventurers went because now you're playing the bad guy who tries to fend them off. As you can see from the screenshots featuring cross-sections of towers, it's got the same whimsical JRPG look -- this is, after all, a game in the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles series -- but with a bit more action apparent. No more staying home while everyone else has all the fun. According to the official site, you set up traps, dungeons, and monsters.

Dungeon Keeper anyone? With a touch of Evil Genius? And maybe some SimTower for good measure?
