As you can see in the trailer, the next Zelda game for the Nintendo DS looks a lot like the last Zelda game for the Nintendo DS. From the press release:The new The Legend of Zelda™: Spirit Tracks game...will utilize the intuitive touch control of Phantom Hourglass in an all new adventure that will please longtime Zelda™ fans while keeping the game accessible to all DS owners. The concept behind this Zelda game includes utilizing a steam locomotive to travel around the world, switching Phantom and Link to explore the dungeons, and solving puzzles using new items.
As much as I try to maintain a healthy cynicism, I'm constantly impressed at how many Zelda games Nintendo can crank out, each little more than a variation on the same formula, but each strangely compelling. New Mario games do nothing for me, but for some magical Nintendo reason, I'm a little atwitter at the announcement of any new Zelda game.

Oooh, Link gets a steam locomotive and a controllable armor! I loved the two piratical cel-shaded Zeldas so I'm stoked for this one.

I'm sure I'll love it anyway, but there's nothing like restricting your movement to literally on rails to get that sense of adventure going.

What the f&*#?! This is the weirdest franchise move ever. Awesomely hilarious, but, seriously, wtf?

@Budget, there's something much more liberating about jumping in a tiny boat across some seas, in generally any direction you want. A train is limited to pre-existing routes obviously. I don't doubt the mighty N will some how make this great, but on paper it isn't the first choice of transport.

The sailboating in Wind Waker actually kind of sucked (because of the whole, having to take out the baton to change the wind). However, it WAS awesome to explore the ocean, find new things, etcs. I really loved Wind Waker.
That said, by definition a train can only go to predetermined places, so the appeal isn't immediately obvious. I am looking forward to this, but we will have to see..
