Call of Duty moniker discontinued

Call_of_Duty_dropped.jpgActivision was probably traumatized that Academy Award nominee Mickey Rourke mangled the name in The Wrestler: "Call It Doodie For?" Or maybe they were sick of people snickering at the word "doodie".

For whatever reason, the "Call of Duty" title is being dropped entirely. First Activision abandoned the numbering entirely in the last game, Call of Duty: World at War, aka Call of Duty 5, aka The One with Nazi Zombies. And now the next Call of Duty, due out on November 10th, will simply be Modern Warfare 2. Which is mostly fine, except that whenever I see "MW2", which will no doubt be online shorthand for the game, I think of another Activision game: MechWarrior 2.

Tom, your age is showing. How much of today's video game audience even knows MechWarrior 2? Ah, man, that was a great game.
