I've already documented my utter loathing for the mandatory avatars Microsoft added to Xbox Live. I express this loathing by trying to make my avatar as creepy as possible. Call it virtual self-loathing.
But for the first time since Microsoft launched these Mii-wanna-bes, I read something that might make me actually not hate my avatar. In fact, I might actually come to like it a little bit. Just a little bit. In comments to VG247, the creators of the avatars at Rare suggested that maybe avatars could get special outfits based on achievements earned from specific games. They even hinted that such plans are actually underway."In time... games will be able to give away clothes and accessories just like Achievements," said art head Lee Musgrave.
As to which games specifically will be using Avatars in this way, the developer wouldn't be drawn.
"We are currently working with multiple partners who have expressed interest in using Avatars," added producer Stacey Law.If there's one thing that might make a Mii-wanna-be compelling, it's applying the distinctive stamp of games I really like. Let me dress my little dude in a Far Cry 2 T-shirt I got for finding all the diamonds and a BioShock helmet that I got for saving/harvesting all the Little Sisters and I will proudly display my avatar.

You show off your avatar every chance you get.
Can't say I blame you.

I would actually play some of the more crappy games if the achievements tied into avatar accessories. Bringing loot whoring to XBOX live could be brilliant

Will there be thrift store clothes for those of us with few achievement points? I'd be willing to play less in exchange for a hobo avatar.

I'd like to give away some clothes to charity, because I have no avatard!
