Sega giveth, and Sega taketh away. But mainly taketh away. Gamespot all but confirmed the rumor flying around that the Aliens role-playing game has been canceled. The untitled project was in development at Obsidian, the company known for the Star Wars-themed RPG, Knights of the Old Republic 2. By reading between the lines in Gamespot's article, it seems that someone at Obsidian told them the development was "indefinitely suspended", and an official inquiry to Sega was met with a terse "no comment but we aren't denying it".
Meanwhile, Joystiq reports that funding has been cut off for the Colonial Marines shooter in development at Gearbox. The site speculates that the cancellations are cost-cutting measures tied to Sega's recent financial loses and layoffs. Obama better do something soon or we're not going to get any more cool games.

Weren't you just complaining about too many games using the same old movies for inspiration? There have been a million games inspired by Alien - maybe Sega canceled this one to make room for an RPG based on Ugetsu Monogatari or a survival horror title based on Luis Buñuel's work. You don't know!

Or maybe another mediocre Sonic game.

That is F'ed up! Such an awesome concept for a game and they ditch it! Don't they realize that sci-fi is thriving in video games? I was looking foread to this too. Then agian, most movie based games suck. I guess I hoped that this would be another "CoR: Escape from Butchers Bay" and not "Enter the Matrix."
