Microsoft's Xbox beats Nintendo and Sony in social networking circles

Xbox_360_social_networking.jpgWhen it comes to blogs and online social networking, the fifth most mentioned brand is the Xbox. Nintendo is number 13 and the Playstation is number 15. This is according to a "social media services provider" (I have no idea what that is either) called Vitrue [sic] that ranked the 100 most frequently mentioned brands.

Each day, Vitrue analyzes the online conversations on a variety of social networking, blogging, microblogging, photo and video sharing sites.

The Vitrue SMI calculates scores about the brand's social conversations. We apply a series of algorithms to reflect the frequency of usage, the size of the social media environment, and the magnitude of the conversation. The result is a single numeric score for each brand: the Vitrue Social Media Index (SMI).

Vitrue's Jim Anderson notes in the comments section of this Ad Age article that the Wii is responsible for Ninentdo being up so high. In future versions of the list, he said, it'll be categorized as its own brand.
