The original Lost Planet was a shooter relentlessly set on an icy planet, where you had to continually gather warmth power-ups to keep from freezing to death. It was weird in that way Japanese games can be weird, a bit clunky in that way first games in a franchise can be clunky, and too focused on boss battles in that way Capcom games can be too focused on boss battles. But other than that, it was like playing a shooter on Hoth.
Now Capcom promises some climate change for the sequel.Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet's ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. The story has advanced beyond Wayne Holden as players will now follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III.
And if the phrase "customized snow pirates" doesn't grab you, how about this feature:Lost Planet 2 is loaded with one the most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends.
Below is a pretty nifty trailer, although I have to say those "snow pirates" seem more like ninjas. And not even "snow ninjas". I'd be inclined to think this is a game about "space ninjas".

Looks pretty cool! I tell ya, Lost Planet (along with Dead Rising and Oblivion) was one of the first things that convinced me I needed an Xbox 360. The snowblind setting was unique and the Capcomy battles were pretty swell too. I'm not sure how I feel about a shift to more standard jungle environments, but I guess it's a nice change. All I wanna know is, why is alien vegitation always so dull? We're on a whole other planet, but it looks exactly like Earth.
Give me some giant man-eating plants or spine-shooting vines or, you know, more Earth 2 stuff.
Is Tim Curry available?

Wow I diddnt even know there was a lost planet 2 in the works thanks I really loved the first one mainly because I can't find another decent mech game. If all my dreams come true then the warmer climate will do away with the constantly draining energy and I still really hate giant bugs

And tom they don't look like space ninjas they look like space marines which are infinitely cooler

Dude, since when do space marines get grappling hooks? I stand by my space ninja assessment! I shall not budge on this one!

yeah, but are you still a "space" pirates, "space" ninja or "space" marine, if you are not in space? They are on a planet(EDN III), right? would they not just be pirates, ninja of marines?
By Tom Chick at 4:57 PM ON 02/27/09
Stone, is a pirate still a pirate when he steps off his pirate ship and goes ashore? I would argue that he is. Ergo, space pirates, space ninjas, and space marines sometimes go planetside without losing their identity!
And, yes, I agree that Lost Planet 2 does look pretty cool, especially being able to play those crazy boss battles with three other people. Maybe they can kill the boss when I invariably die because I can't figure out the weak point I have to hit for massive damage.
