I marked my calendar today because it was the day bidding closed on the "hitman" gamertag for Xbox Live being sold on eBay. Last I checked, the bid was at $200. How high would it get by the time it was over?
So I signed into eBay and discovered the auction was closed. c|net's Daniel Terdiman reports that eBay closed it on the grounds that it won't traffic in virtual items. Apparently, the seller then tried to auction a memory card with the profile downloaded onto it. Ah, very clever! Or maybe not, since c|net slapped down that auction as well. So the seller went to -- where else? -- Craig's list. You can see how he fared there by clicking the link to his post.
And to think, the "hitman" gamertag could have been passed along to someone who would cherish it enough to give it a gamerscore higher than 4000 measly points. Terdiman notes that the bidding had reached $500 before the auction was closed, which just proves the old axiom that some people have more money than sense.
