Dead Rising 2 is no longer a rumor

Dead_Rising_2_announced.jpgAfter a successfully ambiguous viral video primed the hype pump, Capcom fired it up full blast with an official confirmation that Dead Rising 2 is indeed in development. Note that I'm not accusing Capcom of hyping the game. On the contrary, they're being pretty low key with the announcement. All we know is that it takes place in Las Vegas Fortune City a few years after the original game's zombie outbreak has gone world-wide. It'll ship for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Instead, the hype for this game is going to come from guys like me. It will go a little something like this: Dead Rising 2 cannot be anything other than The Greatest Game Ever Made In All of Recorded History. I cannot discount the possibility that something better than Dead Rising 2 was created by the Mayans before they mysteriously vanished and took it with them, or perhaps something better was lost when the library in Alexandria was burned now. We'll never know until we invent time machines. Until then, I anxiously await Capcom's announcement about the release date (probably this holiday season).

Am I nervous that the development has been handed over to a fledgling studio in Vancouver whose previous credits include a baseball game and nothing else? Shut up, you're harshing my buzz. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to write a quick letter.

Dear Sims 3,

Hi, how are you? I am fine. But I am sorry to inform you that you are no longer my most eagerly awaited game of 2009.

Love,

Tom

You're like the third person this year that I've had to respond that the Mayans DID NOT mysteriously disappear (I guess it’s that whole 2012 thing). That's New Age mumbo jumbo. The people are still there, at least their descendants. Their culture was simply subsumed by other cultures.

And not to beat a dead horse, but there's like no other place I can ask this, but isn't Frankenstein technically a zombie? Sadly this has been bothering me.

And I still play the original Sims; that one where I wake up in the morning and spend the day listening to people that appear to be speaking but I can't quite figure out what they are saying.

It's Frankenstein's monster, Frankenstein was the damn doctor who created him...

I really hope they add online co-op and either a new save system or lots more bathrooms.

Also, Sims 3? It's been out for a while now and it's called Sims 2...

By Greg at 11:20 AM ON 02/10/09

@Soviet_Cyanide, yeah, ok, but you know who I meant. I can try to make some argument that maybe the monster took his creator's name like kids tend to take the name of their parents. It would have been nice if he named him something like Bob, then I could just write Bob Frankenstein and everyone would know who I meant. Probably would have made him less scary though. Get the torches. Nevermind. It's just Bob. Ok next time I’ll take the time to type out Frankenstein’s monster.

I skipped the whole Sims 2 thing so that might be good news for Sims 3 since I won't have missed anything.

I'm confused. Is Dead Rising 2 completed already or still in development? Has anyone played a beta of the game? I'm just wondering why the pre-emptive praise of a game that apparently is still in development by a relatively inexperienced studio.

@Greg: "You're like the third person this year that I've had to respond that the Mayans DID NOT mysteriously disappear"

How do you know? Were you THERE? I guess next you're going to tell me they didn't invent TV! Also, it's impossible that humans built the pyramids -- any of them, even those ones the Mayans had -- given the technology of the time. Why are you part of the cover-up, Greg? What do you know?

Also, you totally got pwned on the Frankenstein thing. Ha ha!

@ hebramleigh: It's very simple really. Did you know there are *zombies* in Dead Rising 2? I think I've just blown your mind, haven't I? Glad to see you on board now.

Seriously, though, for me, it's a matter of how good Dead Rising was. More than any other horror game, it *gets* the concepts of George Romero's zombie movies and does a wonderful job translating them into gameplay. My enthusiasm for a sequel has to do with hoping that Capcom realizes what made Dead Rising special and is looking to build on that.

Also, while Blue Castle may be a new studio, they seem to be built from the experienced community of developers in Vancouver.

@Tom, no I wasn't there, but archeologists recently found an early release copy of Windows Vista in a Mayan ruin and now speculate that this resulted in their civilization's collapse.

I'm starting to suspect that if I was an available character in Pain that you would spend endless hours launching me into a concrete wall.

And sorry, my assignment only extends to the, um, weather projects near Roswell.

Sorry to tell you but the Vancouver production company (Blue Castle) actually has 2 titles under its belt, both of which are baseball, and both of which look very very very very dull.
