The big winner at the DICE summit in Las Vegas was Little Big Planet, which won eight awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. It was recognized for outstanding game direction, art direction, visual engineering, character performace, and innovation, as well as family game of the year, console game of the year, and overall game of the year.
The Academy is always good for a few howlers. This year's was no exception. Action-spazzer Red Alert 3 won simulation/strategy game of the year, the unimaginative God of War adaptation for the PSP won handheld game of the year, and the over-the-top rocket simulator Burnout Paradise won racing game of the year.
