Time Warner will reboot Tomb Raider movies

Tomb_Raider_movies.jpgNow that Time Warner had snatched the rights to Tomb Raider from Paramount, it looks like a reboot is coming down the pike. According to the Hollywood Reporter:

The new project, however, is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain. [Dan] Lin will produce the project...Lin is the producer behind Warners' upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed update of "Sherlock Holmes" and the adventure film "Jonny Quest."
Frankly, I'm not sure I would have noticed. I've seen both Tomb Raider movies and I honestly couldn't tell you the first thing about the cinematic versions of Lara's origins, love interest (she had a love interest?), and villains (what kind of terrible action movies don't have memorable villains?). Is it still considered a reboot when there's so little worth kicking?

Amid all the talk of rebooting Tomb Raider and reimagining Lara Croft, Leigh Alexander has done a great job as an apologist for loving Lara just the way she is:

I'm pretty sure all us gals are smart enough to know that Lara is a video game character and not a real person. Maybe her body proportions are unrealistic -- but, uh, the fact that she leaps across chasms in the Amazon, balances on hairline ledges and discovers mysterious artifacts with ancient powers is acceptably grounded in reality?
