Quick, name the composer of the music for Grand Theft Auto IV! No, the answer isn't Glukoza, the folks responsible for that catchy "Schweine" song on Vladivostok FM. The answer is Michael Hunter, who Rockstar also used for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. And if it still hasn't occurred to you that there's incidental music in Grand Theft Auto IV, all you have to do is think back to the music that plays during the loading screen. Lord knows, you've probably sat through that thing enough times.
That bit of music, which is certainly burned into my brain, is called "Soviet Connection", and you can hear it on Hunter's MySpace page. You can also see in the comments section that another composer digs it, and not just by way of empty platitudes:Mr. Hunter,
"Soviet Connection" is truly an outstanding piece of composition. The usage of strings is profoundly dramatic and piercing. Your ability is evident and I will keep my eyes on your work. Never cease to produce and you will achieve greatness Mr. Hunter. You have my support.
John Williams And, yes, it's clearly that John Williams: Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Thanks to Enduro Man for caring enough about composers to catch this!
