Lucasarts may have bailed on their big fancy next-gen Indiana Jones game, but they're promising a new Indy game for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and Playstation 2 (?)(!) called Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. A new trailer shows platform-independent cinematics of an Indy who looks about thirty years old and not played by Harrison Ford. He punches, jumps, climbs, crawls, and gets tossed through various dimensional portals in a variety of abrupt edits that play like a John Williams scored Indy verion of that Grand Theft Auto IV trailer of Nikko strolling nonchalantly from setting to setting. Somewhere along the way he seems to get a Golden Globe Award.
The release is listed as Spring 2009, which is awfully soon and seems to give lie to the rumors of the game being outright canceled. Maybe it was just never meant for next-gen platforms? Still, the Playstation 2? Really?

The voice actor for that younger Indy sounds suspiciously like Patrick Warburton. Could be wrong though.

That trailer looked thousands of times better than the entire Crystal Skull Indiana Jones movie. Sad really.

While I agree with Admiral that this 60 second clip looks superior than the travesty that is Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I must admit that I am equally unimpressed by this trailer as well. Though I recognize that this is a CGI rendered cutscene (possibly) from the game, it doesn't inspire me to want to play it. Indy looks disheveled - more like a drunken taxi driver, than a beat up archaeologist.
I wonder, perhaps there is an even wider uncanny valley for famous figures rendered in CGI than there is for an "average" person rendered in the same way. I just didn't believe I was watching Indiana Jones, save for the music and setting.

I was very impressed by the CGI however I don't think that I care too much for the being tossed through various dimensional portals idea. I like going through a story line. Going from place to place seems more like when you are dreaming and next thing you know you are somewhere else and it doesn't seem to phase you in the least.
Ps2? really? Oh well, I don't have a Wii though. I'm surprised it's available for PS2 and not the PSP since it's available for the DS. That's not fair.
