Given its target audience, it's not surprise that there's some gamespotting to be done in Tropic Thunder. In one scene, the "nerd" character - the one who knows enough to deliver a little in-movie exposition since he read the travel magazine on the airplane - discusses how videogaming and porn will drive the format wars, with a nod to the Playstation 3's Blu-Ray format. Tropic Thunder is, of course, a Blu-Ray release. Keep in mind this was shot when the HD format wars were still being waged. When you rent the movie now, it's more a history lesson than a prediction.
There's also some last-gen gaming directly portrayed. The agent-with-a-heart-of-gold, played by Matthew McConaghy, is shown playing Wii Sports in his office.
Don't read too much into any of this, however. This is the same movie in which Tivo saves the protagonists from certain death by intercepting an RPG. Oh, uh, spoiler, I guess.
