Leo Laporte is on his second red ring of death. Some guys have all the luck.
I've had to deal with nine (9!) Xbox replacements (not all on the same system). On the 360 I'm using now, I'm getting frequent lock-ups and onscreen checkerboard patterns. Since I've gotten pretty good at troubleshooting dying 360s, I can tell this means the graphics chip is failing. But it's not technically a red ring of death, so the polite but often hard-to-understand folks at 1-800-4MYXBOX want me to pay $99 to fix it. Since this is a replacement 360 that's less than two years old, I'm inclined to simply keep my fingers crossed for a red ring of death, in which case it'll come under the extended warranty.
So I consider Mr. Laporte pretty lucky. Granted, I'm sure I use my 360 a lot more than Mr. LaPorte, who probably has to spent a lot of time fielding phone calls from a disgruntled John Dvorak. But Laporte's not nearly as rosy about the whole thing, having posted to his FriendFeed, "At this point I don't even want to get it fixed. PS3 FTW."

I just can't believe people put up with this still. Blows my mind. I had my 360 for 2.5 years and had no issues before I eBayed it for my ps3. However, if I had 1 RROD I may have gotten it fixed...But even 2, I would have fixed then ebayed it immediatly.
I did love my 360 though. Awesome controller and really well thought out software. My ps3 is just barely starting to get some of the functionality that my xbox had at day 1. However, I run my ps3 for days at a time and never even think about it. If sony did one thing right, they made the ps3 very tough...Mines an original 60gb.

Number 8 just red-ring'd on me this week. When I sent back number 7, I dropped it off at the UPS store and the clerk told me to pile it on with the rest. There were five others in my neighborhood going back that week. They said "We get alot of those". So I will soon be on number 9 after this one goes back. I don't even get mad anymore. A guy I work with laughs because he is still on his first, then Santa brought him his first red-ring last night. Now I have the last laugh. When they start charging to fix them, I will just toss it and get a PS3. Till then, I will keep soaking them for the shipping charges. lol
