Like kids untaping one corner of a Christmas gift, some nosy fans went snooping through the files of the demo for Resident Evil 5, the upcoming entry into Capcom's survival horror series. And they seem to have uncovered a major spoiler among the list of enemies. You have to be able to grok the intricacies of Resident Evil lore (ha ha!) to really appreciate the significance of the spoiler. Which I can't. For instance, I couldn't tell you whether Albert Wesker is a good guy or a bad guy (bad guy?), how on earth the fast zombies in Resident Evil 4 are related to the slow zombies in the original games (they aren't?), or what the President's daughter was doing in the cult-infested backwoods of Spain (backpacking?). But I know a major plot twist when I see one.
If I was invested in Resident Evil 5's story, I'd be pretty bummed that Capcom carelessly released such an important detail into the wild three months before the game comes out. But I'd be even more bummed that some jerk at Playstation Universe named Justin Pinter announced the detail in the headline that will now be carried around RSS feeds and blog links. Nice work, Mr. Pinter. While you're at it, why don't you broadcast the name of the last Cylon over a loudspeaker mounted on a van parked outside my house?
I'm not going to link to it, but if you're interested in possibly spoiling the Resident Evil 5 story, it's easy enough to find Pinter's article from the information I've given.
