Unless you're writing for one of the major gaming sites, it's probably not a good idea to close a 1400-word article on how much you like Dead Space with the following line:
I'm still not sure why I like Dead Space so much. After reading Tom Cross's comments on Gamasutra, I'm not sure why he likes it so much either.

Mediocre storyline with a great interface and gameplay design. i agree with cross's view on the fact that aside from the radio messages you receive, there isn't much interaction with anyone else.
And because your pretty much alone the entire time, you end up feeling like some kind of push-over douchbag thats doing everyones footwork. And the fact the that your character is that silent everyman type doesn't exactly help either.
imo i liked the game a lot, i'd say i feel the same way about the conflict i have with a lame storyline and excellent game structure/setting (i love scary space stuff)

I thought it was great, but I do agree it's hard to defend. I think that it isn't the fault of the game so much as the paradigms that come into play in game reviews and even forum discussion.
