High Tension and F.E.A.R.: What's the connection?
You ever read an interview that has you all but screaming at the page or screen for the interviewer to ask the obvious follow-up question? Because that's what I was doing at a Strategy Informer interview with F.E.A.R. 2 art lead Dave Matthews. He twice references French horror movie Haute Tension as an influence for the upcoming game.
First's there's:So we looked at a lot of other influences, like Nightwatch and Daywatch, High Tension and we've even looked at films like Saw and stuff like that.
Then there's:Coming back to some of the horror aspects, you've the aforementioned influences from High Tension, Nightwatch, Daywatch, Saw.
As for Nightwatch and Daywatch, well, yeah, whatever. Those movies are basically plot-less videogame mish-mashes anyway. And as for Saw, Matthews volunteers some elaboration that's much more thoughtful than I'd expect from a Saw reference:Not the gore aspects of Saw, but more the emotional trigger that occurs when you see a character wake up and he's got 30 seconds to perform some action or else something abysmal will happen. And it's that kind of emotional trigger that we wanted to pull from Saw.
Okay, cool. But that makes me all the more curious about why he's bringing up High Tension, Alexander Aja's super gory, stylish fake-out about sexuality and violence. What does this have to do with F.E.A.R. 2?
Because I'm going to spit if he's just bringing it up because there's a circular saw in the game.

I hope he's not saying that the game will have plot holes you could drive a truck through and won't make any sense if you think about it at all afterwards...
