If you missed the Spike TV Videogame Awards, congratulations on retaining a little dignity as a videogamer. If you care, Evil Avatar has assembled a list of the various winners so you don't have to page through the Spike TV site category-by-category. To cut to the chase, Grand Theft Auto IV won game of the year and World of Goo won the "Fueled by Dew" award for best independent game, sponsored by Mountain Dew.
But the real reason to tune in was the see various teaser and trailer premieres, all of which are now online. Here's the selection:
* A very short teaser for Uncharted 2: Among Theives.
* Dante's Inferno, a new franchise from EA which seems to consist of 90% concept art and 10% pushing down a demon and sticking a cross in his head.
* Some generic looking bad-guy whacking in the upcoming Watchmen tie-in.
* A great trailer for Brutal Legend (pictured above), which looks like it'll do a double fine job of combining the talents of Tim Schafer and Jack Black.
* In the Fight Night Round 4 trailer, I didn't see hide nor hair of a Burger King logo, so no telling what happened there. Did Electronic Arts lose the Burger King license?
* Terminator Salvation trailer.
* The Mafia II trailer says zero about gameplay, but tons about tone.
* Cole from Gears of War 2 enthusiastically explaining three new maps now available for ten bucks. Only the map with the rising water gimmick seems to warrant that sort of enthusiasm. As for the ten bucks, well, that seems the going rate these days for the least little thing.
* A trailer that killed any enthusiasm I had for Rockstar's The Lost and Damned downloadable add-on for Grand Theft Auto IV. Hoo boy.
* About twenty seconds of uninspiring God of War III footage.

I realize this makes me in league with Satan, but I thought the opening with Jack Black was actually funny. And, hey, Rob Halford singscreaming at Tim Shafer! That was cool.

Ha!
I tuned in for a few minutes last night, just so I could be depressed into sleep. The "host" Jack Black appeared for one short song, and Tony Hawk introduced all the speakers after that. What was with the Little Billy haircut on Tony? He looks like he's pushing fifty, but his toupee is going for fifteen.

Actually, Jack Black is the weakest thing in the Brutal Legend trailer and I really like his Tenacious D stuff. I hope he doesn't ruin the game. :(
