Midway is going out of its way to make sure Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe gets a T-rating instead of an M-rating. 1up has detailed a couple of the fatalities that were toned down. It seems the difference between a T-rating and an M-rating is whether someone is shot or impaled in the face. Shooting and impaling other parts of the body are more acceptable.
You can see some of the bloodless finishing moves here and here. You'll note that when Mortal Kombat characters do them, they're called "fatalities", just like the good old days. But when the DC superheros do them, they're called "heroic brutalities", which strikes me as an oxymoron. Valiant atrocity? Noble enormity? Well-meaning ne'er-do-well?
I like a good fighting game as much as the next guy, but those finishing moves seem really strange. What kind of Mortal Kombat doesn't let you pull out a man's spine or rip the still-beating heart from his chest? The answer, of course, is a T-rated Mortal Kombat game.

Both of the last links point to the same "Rage" movie, FYI.

Actually there could be such a thing as a heroic atrocity. It's like when you do something that you know to be morally evil, but something which must be done for good to persevere. Basically condemning oneself to hell for pure and noble reasons, knowing full well the score.
For instance; traveling back in time and strangling baby hitler in his crib; heroic atrocity. You burn in hell and a horde of people avoid torture on earth and barbarism which would blacken their souls.

Oh for...
If you're going to bother making a Mortal Kombat game, you bloody well make it M-rated. It'd be like making a T-rated Manhunt.
