Namco puts one in Hellgate's brain

hellgate_london_undead.jpgHellgate: London is dead. It's alive. It's dead. It's alive. I was having trouble keeping track of this undead zombie game's status, so I'm glad that Namco stepped up and in no uncertain terms promised that those of us in the United States won't have to play any more.

There was some confusion when Hanbitsoft, the company that holds the rights to the game in Asia, made some noise about supporting the game, and even said it was starting a development studio in San Francisco to make new stuff for Hellgate. But Namco, the company that holds the rights in North America, obviously has better things to do than wade around in this particular mess. As far as they're concerned, they insist it's over.

By the way, you want to know a game that plays a lot like Hellgate: London, but with some much-needed streamlining? Resistance 2. If you were a fan of Hellgate, or wanted to be a fan of a game like Hellgate that wasn't utterly terrible, then you should try the cooperative multiplayer campaigns in Resistance 2, which is out today. It's got persistent characters, distinct classes, swarms of monsters, powerful bosses, leveling up, and even a little bit of loot. The only hitch is that you need a Playstation 3 to do it.
