Last week, the developers of Fable II said they had a big announcement to make, but they were going to delay it until after the new Xbox Live interface was released. Apparently, Microsoft wanted everyone to pay attention to the stupid avatar update, which I hate more and more every time I boot up my Xbox 360.
It turns out -- to exactly no one's surprise -- that the big announcement is downloadable content coming to Fable II next month.Starting mid-December, 2008, fans will be summoned back into Albion's service with the release of the Knothole Island downloadable content pack. The remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.
Free goodies will also be added to the game, including new weapons, armor, and a weight loss potion, which is good news for my character, who's been relying a bit too much on food for healing, much to the destriment of his waistline, and therefore his attractiveness rating.
Knothole Island will cost 800 Microsoft points. Contrast this to the four maps, three guns, and two cars Ubisoft is selling for Far Cry 2 for the same price.
