Grant Theft Auto missed release dates

GTA_delays.jpgThe date for the promised downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV was always the subject of confusion. Take Two would say one thing, Rockstar would say another, and Microsoft would say yet another. They had a great Keystone Kops thing going there. But through it all, the target date always seemed to be sometime this year, presumably in time for Christmas shopping. In a conversation with Variety, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser splashed cold water on that prospect.

Variety: I have to ask you about the "GTA IV" downloadable content you're doing. Do you still expect that to come out this year?

Dan Houser: I'm not sure. It's going well. But we don't know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks. We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been. But the development is going really good. It's shaping up to be something we're very proud of. That was our goal.

If you've ever had parents, you know this sort of "we'll see" answer is just another way to say "no".

Meanwhile, we've got Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS to look forward to this January. Or so we thought. Take Two casually nudged it into next year's second quarter. According to the tortured math of fiscal quarters, this means we probably won't be stealing cars, pimping hookers, and dealing drugs on our Nintendo DSs until April.
