Not many days go by that I don't fall in love with Far Cry 2 just a little bit more. Now I already knew it was a great graphics engine, but it takes one hell of a graphics engine to do this (you can skip the first 38 seconds of the dude admiring his level):
I've seen plenty of fancy fireworks in the course of normal gameplay, but it's pretty amazing to see just how much the engine can handle. The level was created with the map editor on the PC version. The guy who made it is using a pretty beefy system (3.5Ghz Athlon processor, 3GBs of RAM, a Radeon HD 4850 videocard), but note how there's virtually no slowdown during all those pyrotechnics. And look how far up the debris are thrown during the bigger explosions.

Oh lawl, that's my video xD
Hey, the system is going to get even beefier soon! Upgrading to a E8400 (going to overclock, ofc) 4gbs 1066 DDR2 RAM, add another 750gb HDD and put it in RAID... All kinds of fun stuff.
I myself was very surprised my system could handle all that without any real frame rate drop.
Now, that being said, I made another map, with probably twice as many explosives, but my PC would drop to around 9FPS, regardless of the graphical settings (that video was recorded at 1680x1050 max settings for everything, including AA and AF) So my CPU was bottle necking me there.
We'll see what kind of fun we can have with an E8400 ... >:D
