One the most notable features of the new Xbox Live patch (calling it the "NXE" sounds like you're talking about stocks even more than when Sony would have you call their front end the "XMB") is the ability to install games onto the hard drive so they'll load faster. Shave a few seconds of down time from my videogaming habit so I can pack in more actual gaming? Heck yeah! So if you're like me, you're filling up a 120GB hard drive with as many games as will fit. King Kong? I never got all the achievements for that one so I may go back one day. Install it. Kameo? That wasn't bad. Might as well throw it on the hard drive in case I ever get the hankering to be a fairy/lava monster combo.
But before you install Halo 3, the developers at Bungie offer this tip: don't. I fell asleep reading through the technical explanation, but woke up in time for the bottom line:...installing Halo 3 to your HDD will actually result in longer load times and thus a less optimal experience than if you run the game from the disc drive.
Good to know. That's about 5GB I can use to install Assassin's Creed instead. In case, you know, I want to track down the rest of those Templar's flags some day.

Ironically, this kind of shows a great feature of Bungie. They went from the Xbox 1 with the built in hard drive, and redesigned their system so well that it now runs better through the DVD drive than off the hard drive.

Q: Why is this the case?
A: ...Perhaps we also coded too close to the metal.
Next time someone has a problem with something I did, I'm going to tell them I "coded too close to the metal," then spin around so my black trench coat flares out like a cape and walk away while making Robo Cop footstep sounds.

Awesome! I'm going to use this too, Zeus.
WIFE: "Why didn't you get milk at the store like I asked?"
ME: "It seems, my dear, I coded too close to the metal."

If it's only going to make screen loading five seconds slower big deal. It'll save wear and tear on your disc drive.
